Classic Winter Intercontinental Chicago Wedding

Newlyweds share a kiss in the elevator following their Intercontinental Chicago wedding.

The Ford’s winter wedding leaned fully into what the Intercontinental Chicago does best. Their day consisted of rich interiors, layered light, and a setting that carries the atmosphere on its own. Pamela and Keaton’s energy carried through every part of the celebration, from their rooftop first look to the final moments on the dance floor. Every design choice worked alongside the venue’s elegant interior rather than competing with it. The result was a love filled celebration that was as moody, warm, and the epitome of class.

Intercontinental Hotel Chicago Wedding

Winter in Chicago comes with its limitations, but this venue eliminated the weather issues. Pamela and Keaton planned a day that stayed largely indoors which meant no one had to fight against the frigid wind for photos. The Intercontinental offers a range of indoor locations that photograph well without additional styling. Ornate detailing, historic elements, and dramatic lighting create natural depth, especially in colder months when outdoor portraits aren’t always practical. However, we couldn’t leave out the Chicago skyline altogether! We made time for a rooftop first look that included the city in the background before settling into the interior spaces that defined the rest of the day.

For couples considering a winter Intercontinental Chicago wedding, this is where the venue stands out! It doesn’t require ideal weather to deliver a cohesive gallery and the design details are even more incredible in person. Location also plays a practical role here. The Intercontinental’s position on the Magnificent Mile makes it accessible for guests, with nearby accommodations, restaurants, and walkable city access. It’s a venue we can’t recommend highly enough!

Chicago Wedding Reception

The reception design stayed consistent with the venue’s elevated feel. A black-and-white palette anchored the space, while deep brown bridesmaid dresses added contrast without pulling focus. The florals remained classic: white roses with baby’s breath, arranged in full centerpieces that complemented the scale of the room.

Tapered candles lined the tables, softening the room’s darker elements and creating a steady glow throughout the evening. Overhead, the chandelier and two-level layout added dimension, especially in wide reception shots and overhead perspectives.

The black-and-white checkered dance floor became a natural focal point as the night progressed. Guests filled the space quickly, especially during the money dance, where movement and energy shifted the tone from formal to fully celebratory. Champagne circulated, cake was served, and a great time was had by all celebrating the Fords!

Chicago Intercontinental Downtown Bridal Portraits

One of the strongest advantages of the Chicago Intercontinental Hotel is its variety of portrait locations within a single property. We were able to capture so much variety with their bridal portraits without ever leaving the hotel.

It’s worth noting that this venue naturally produces darker, moodier images. For couples drawn to bright, airy photography, the Intercontinental may not align. But for those who prefer depth, contrast, and a more editorial finish, it more than delivers. The air outside was cold, but the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting!
